How To Solve Common Network Problems

small business on laptop

Wi-Fi networks can seem like a bit of a mystery at times. Things can go wrong, which results in difficulty connecting to the internet. Some issues are really easy to remedy. We’re going to share some of the most common problems and some easy solutions which you can try. If you’re still unable to solve your issue, contact PC Help Wincanton for further advice.

Slow Internet Speed

If it’s taking too long for you to navigate the internet because of extended loading times, something could be wrong. Your first step to try and resolve this should be to restart your router. Turn it off, wait for 30 seconds or so and turn it back on. If your slow internet speed was caused by a temporary issue, this should solve it.

If that doesn’t work, check that the issue isn’t with your device. Compare speeds on multiple devices to see if the issue persists. If it’s definitely the internet speed, you could try updating the firmware on the router. Another thing to watch for is how much bandwidth you’re using. Steaming videos, online gaming and downloading large files could be the cause of your issue.

Connection Drops

If you’re finding that your Wi-Fi connection drops in and out, you may have some issues with your router. Check that it’s situated in a well-ventilated area, as overheating can cause the connection to drop. As well as that, updating the network drivers is a good idea to ensure it’s operating with the latest software. If it’s still not working and you have an older router, try upgrading to a newer model.

Poor Signal Strength

Slow internet and intermittent connection could also be symptoms of a poor signal strength. This can be confirmed by checking the Wi-Fi signal bars on your device. If they’re low, you have a poor connection.

To fix this, you can try moving your router to improve the signal. Position it away from any obstructions and elevate it if you can. If that doesn’t work, you can also try installing a Wi-Fi extender to boost your signal and increase the area it works in. For a slightly less expensive option, if your router has a replaceable antenna you can try upgrading to a higher-gain one.
